THE PATENT MONETIZE PROCESS

How It Works

A clear process for patent owners, technology buyers and enterprise teams

Patent Monetize is a global technology marketplace and technology ownership platform connecting patented innovations with businesses that can use them. We help patent owners present commercial opportunities, buyers find relevant technologies, and corporate IP teams and law firms investigate complex patent matters.

Patent Monetize process: List, Discover, Assess and Connect
Discover. Assess. Connect. Move forward.

START WITH YOUR OBJECTIVE

One platform. Three clear pathways.

You can begin with a marketplace listing, an enquiry about a technology or a defined project requirement. The next steps depend on your objective - selling a patent, securing a licence, acquiring technology, developing a commercialization partnership or obtaining technical analysis for a business or legal decision.

PATHWAY 01

For Patent Owners and Sellers

Present your technology. Reach relevant businesses. Explore the right commercial arrangement.

A patent listing should help a prospective buyer understand what the technology offers, where relevant rights exist and how it could be used. Our process combines marketplace presentation with additional analytical and transaction support where required.

01Create Your Account and Complete Your Profile

Register on Patent Monetize and provide your contact and organization details. Your profile identifies the person or entity presenting the technology and gives interested businesses a starting point for communication.

You may list an individual patent or submit a portfolio requirement. If you are acting for a patent owner, identify your role and the authority under which you are presenting the opportunity.

02Define What You Want to Achieve

Before preparing the listing, decide which commercial opportunities you wish to explore. Clearly stated expectations help prospective partners understand the opportunity before discussions begin.

Patent selling

Transfer of ownership of identified patent rights on agreed terms.

Patent licensing

Permission to use specified patent rights within an agreed scope while ownership remains with the owner.

Technology transfer

Access to technology that may include patent rights, know-how, technical documentation and implementation support.

Joint commercialization

A partnership to develop, manufacture or bring the technology to market.

03Prepare and Submit Your Listing

Provide the information needed to explain both the patent position and the technology practical relevance. Describe the technology accurately and distinguish demonstrated performance from anticipated benefits.

Keep confidential know-how and sensitive documents outside the public listing until an appropriate disclosure arrangement is in place.

Patent identification

Patent or publication numbers, titles, relevant jurisdictions and reported status.

Ownership and representation

The owner details and your authority to discuss the opportunity.

Technology summary

The problem addressed, proposed solution and distinguishing technical features.

Potential applications

Relevant products, processes, industries and possible implementation settings.

Development stage

Whether the technology is conceptual, prototype, tested, pilot or commercial.

04Complete the Listing Review

We review the submission for completeness, clarity and suitability for the marketplace. Where necessary, we request clarification about patent details, ownership, technical description or rights being offered.

This review improves the presentation of the opportunity. It does not replace a buyer independent investigation of ownership, legal status, validity, enforceability or technical performance.

05Make the Opportunity Available to Buyers

Once published, the listing becomes available for buyers to discover through relevant marketplace categories and searches. Buyers can review the available information and raise enquiries about the technology.

Additional support can cover commercial presentation, potential application analysis, market mapping or identification of relevant buyers, licensees and strategic partners.

06Review Enquiries and Share Further Information

When an interested party comes forward, establish its intended application, target market and preferred arrangement. This helps determine whether the enquiry fits the available rights and the owner commercial objectives.

Further discussions may involve technical documents, demonstrations, development records or patent information. Where appropriate, the parties can agree confidentiality arrangements before exchanging sensitive material.

07Evaluate and Negotiate the Opportunity

A prospective transaction may require technical, patent and commercial assessment before terms can be agreed. Depending on the assignment, Patent Monetize can support valuation, technical analysis, outreach, discussion coordination and negotiation preparation.

The parties should address the rights involved, geographic scope, exclusivity, financial structure, associated know-how and implementation responsibilities.

08Complete the Transaction and Plan the Next Steps

Once the parties reach agreement, the process moves towards documentation and completion. Subsequent steps may include patent assignment, licensing administration, delivery of technical materials or coordination of technology transfer.

For commercialization projects, the work may continue into development planning, manufacturing partnerships or market entry under a separately agreed scope.

PATHWAY 02

For Technology Buyers

Find technologies that fit your business - not simply patents that match a keyword.

Patent Monetize helps manufacturers, startups, distributors, investors and established companies explore patented technologies. Buyers can enquire about an existing listing or ask us to identify technologies for a specific requirement.

01Define Your Technology Requirement

Begin with the business or technical problem you want to solve. A clear requirement allows us to distinguish potentially useful technologies from those that may be relevant in name but unsuitable in practice.

Business objective

A new product, process improvement, cost reduction, market entry or expansion.

Technical requirements

Required functionality, performance, compatibility and implementation constraints.

Industry and geography

The sector, intended use and countries where you intend to operate.

Commercial preference

Licensing, acquisition, technology transfer or a strategic partnership.

Project parameters

Indicative budget, timeline and internal decision-making requirements.

02Search the Marketplace or Submit a Sourcing Request

Explore available listings by keyword, industry and country. Review opportunities that appear relevant to your application and shortlist those requiring further investigation.

If the marketplace does not contain a suitable opportunity, submit your requirement for a focused sourcing engagement.

03Review the Initial Information

Examine the technology summary, potential applications, patent details, development stage and supporting documents. Identify what is known and what needs clarification.

You may need more information about operating conditions, scalability, ownership, available rights, associated know-how and implementation requirements.

04Enquire and Establish a Potential Fit

Share your intended application and questions about the technology. Initial discussions help determine whether the owner can offer the rights, information and cooperation you need.

These discussions may also establish whether the technology is available in your target countries and whether further confidential disclosure is appropriate.

05Undertake the Required Assessment

For shortlisted opportunities, define the investigations needed before committing to a transaction. Findings should explain the supporting evidence, assumptions, limitations and unresolved questions.

Technical assessment

Review of functionality, supporting evidence, development maturity and implementation requirements.

Patent assessment

Examination of relevant claims, reported status, territorial coverage and application fit.

Ownership and transaction review

Confirmation of authority, existing licences or other restrictions with the owner and advisers.

Commercial assessment

Consideration of potential applications, market relevance, costs and value drivers.

Testing or reverse engineering

Targeted investigation where technical questions cannot be resolved from documentation.

06Compare the Available Commercial Arrangements

Decide whether a licence, acquisition or partnership best supports your objectives. The decision may depend on exclusivity, development control, access to know-how and intended duration of use.

The parties and their advisers then define the rights, financial terms, obligations and conditions necessary for the arrangement.

07Complete the Agreement and Coordinate Implementation

Following agreement, the transaction proceeds to documentation and completion. Technology transfer or commercialization may also require technical materials, training, validation, adaptation or manufacturing arrangements.

These activities should be identified before completion so the parties understand what is included in the transaction and what requires a further engagement.

PATHWAY 03

For Corporations and Law Firms

Turn patent and technology questions into a structured commercial workstream.

Corporate teams and law firms use Patent Monetize for portfolio review, technical evidence, market intelligence, valuation, transaction support and commercialization planning.

01Share the Business or Portfolio Question

Start with the decision you need to make. This may involve a portfolio, a potential product, a competitor, a target market, a dispute or an acquisition opportunity.

02Agree the Scope and Workstream

We clarify the relevant jurisdictions, technologies, products, evidence standards, timing and expected outputs. The scope can be a focused question or a multi-stage program.

Portfolio work

Identify, classify and prioritize assets by technical and commercial relevance.

Technical work

Map claims, products, implementations and evidence.

Commercial work

Assess applications, markets, partners, value and transaction routes.

03Assess the Relevant Patents and Technologies

Our team combines patent, technical and market research to create a grounded view of the opportunity. We make assumptions and evidence visible so that the output can be reviewed by the right stakeholders.

04Build the Evidence and Commercial View

Depending on the brief, the work may include claim charts, evidence of use, product testing, reverse engineering, infringement analysis, valuation, royalty analysis or market mapping.

05Identify and Prioritize Opportunities

The work product separates high-priority opportunities from items that need more evidence or are not aligned to the stated objective. This makes the next decision clearer and more efficient.

06Support Discussions and Decisions

We can support internal presentations, technical discussions, outreach, negotiation preparation and coordination with patent counsel, business teams, owners, licensees or potential partners.

07Move into the Next Commercial or Legal Step

The outcome may be a transaction, licensing strategy, enforcement workstream, product decision, partnership plan or a recommended next investigation. Any continuing work is agreed as a separate scope.
